Constantinople

Istanbul today

Mosaics in the entrance of Basilica di San Marco (May 2003). The fourth crusaders sacked Constantinople, which ended the Byzantine Empire, and brought these mosaics to Venice.

Basilica di San Marco, Venice, built to house St Mark's body.

St. Mark's tomb, which used to be in Alexandria until the 7th century. Just before the city was invaded by the Moslems, his tomb was moved to Venice.

A bird's-eye view of Constantinople.
